BLURB

You know that awkward moment when your agent tells you to fake date your best friend’s sister so you can get the endorsement deal of your dreams? No?

Call me crazy for considering it, but why not? Daisy’s my friend, after all, and I’ve gotten quite close to her and her two awesome boys over the last few years since her douche-nozzle husband divorced her. She loves it when I flirt with her, so we could carry it off, couldn’t we?

An endorsement deal with Lock Performance has been my goal ever since I was little, and it would be one of the biggest accomplishments in my professional swimming career. Something I want desperately.

But what I didn’t expect from this fake start was to want something else—someone—just as desperately. How do I make sure I don’t lose both?

“You need to calm down.” I shake my head at the boys, who are literally bouncing in place on Hunter’s porch like hyped-up bunnies.
Of course, they don’t listen and are still jumping around like lunatics when Hunter opens the door. “Hey, guys.”
“Hunter,” the boys yell and throw themselves at him with such enthusiasm he has to take a couple steps back to keep his balance.
Hunter wraps his arms around the boys’ shoulders and squeezes tightly. They stay like this long enough for my ovaries to try out that hyped-up bunny-hop too. Damn hormones.
But who can blame me? Hunter’s really good with the boys. Of course, my reproductive organs want to come out to play.
The boys let go of Hunter and race past him. What a shocker right there.
“Hey.” Hunter takes a step toward me and holds out his hands. “Here, let me take that for you.”
He grabs the large bowl I was holding and tries to peek under the aluminum foil. “What did you make?”
I swat at his hand before he can look inside. “It’s a surprise. Don’t look.”
“Not even if I ask really nicely?” He makes a pout, and I want to kiss the cuteness off his face. And then lick him from top to bottom. Seriously. He’s that hot, and I want to taste his skin that badly. And I’ve missed him. Seeing him, talking to him . . . kissing him.
But I stay firm and give him my best disapproving face. “Nope. You just have to wait and see.”
“Fine. Come on in, then, party pooper.” He steps aside so I can press past him.
I stop when I’m right next to him, our bodies connected in several spots. “If I remember correctly, I was the life of the party last week.”
Not directly the life of the party, but who cares about technicalities?
Hunter’s eyes flare, and I wonder if he remembers the same things I do.
“You were definitely incredibly attentive.” His whispered words fan over my sensitive skin, and I shiver.
He’s close enough for me to smell his delicious aftershave I love so much. And I’m not sure if I’m the one moving closer, or if he is, but all of a sudden, we’re only a few inches away, and I can practically taste the air around him.
“Daisy?”
My heart hammers in my chest as I jump back, cursing my brother to the moon and back, just as he walks around the corner.

When we walk up the stairs, she grabs the rail and winces under her breath.
I shift the package in my arms. “You okay?”
She pauses and rolls her shoulders back. “Oh yeah. Just a bit sore.”
Noah chuckles in front of us. “I bet you are.”
Well, now I’m definitely curious as I glance back and forth between them. “What did you do that made you sore?”
“Nothing.” Daisy glares at her brother and he holds up his hands, still wearing his amused smile.
Chloe pokes out her head and takes in the scene in front of us.
Noah sidles up beside her. “Daisy’s sore from yesterday.”
Chloe nods. “Oh I bet, pole dancing is no joke.”
This time, Daisy groans and closes her eyes while Noah laughs.
Chloe slaps her hand over her mouth. “Oops. Was I not supposed to say that? Sorry.”
Taking the steps extra slow, Daisy doesn’t look at any of us. “Let’s just go inside and never talk about this again.”
My brain is still trying to play catch-up.
Daisy and pole dancing?
I definitely didn’t expect that.
An image forms in my head of her in only a slinky outfit walking around the pole before jumping on it and gliding down upside down with the metal between her breasts and her ass right there.
Noah clasps me on the shoulder. “Weird, right?”
I choke on my spit. “Something like that.”

Daisy: Sorry, Alex woke up. On my way to bed with my Kindle. You made me curious, and now I can’t go to sleep without checking it out.
I grin as I slip in my own bed.
Hunter: I’m waiting.
What will she think when she sees what’s already on her new e-reader?
Thankfully, I don’t have to wait for long, and my phone screen illuminates the whole room. After setting my phone to night mode, I read the message and laugh.
Daisy: Oh my goodness, you didn’t. Are all of these fake relationship romances?
Another message pops up.
Daisy: Fake it ’til you break it. Pretend you’re mine. One-week husband?
Daisy: We’re not getting fake married or something, right? I’m going to kill you if you fake-propose to me this weekend. Right after I die of embarrassment.
Daisy: Hunter?
Daisy: Hunter!
My laughter echoes around my bedroom. I don’t even know why I find this so hilarious, but somehow, I do. The whole situation is obviously strange, but somehow along the way, I’ve come to enjoy this thing with Daisy. The gala was one thing of course, and for that alone I’ll be forever grateful.

Another spoonful of chocolate mousse makes it into her mouth, and another low moan fills the air around us. Good thing the next cabin isn’t within earshot.
“You’ve got to try this.” Before I can react, Daisy walks over to me, holding her spoon in front of my mouth.
This position allows me the perfect angle to see the soft arch of her neck, and the inviting curve of her breasts. She’s breathtaking.
And I’m screwed.
So what would every man in their right mind do when presented with such a situation, especially knowing that it will be incredibly satisfying but is also something that can’t ever be taken back? Open their lips to slowly glide them over the fluffy softness, of course. Daisy’s eyes watch the mousse disappear, sparkling with undiluted excitement. And maybe something else?
“Total foodgasm, right?” Her tongue darts out mimicking mine when a bit of chocolate wants to escape.
Fuck me. Having her get this excited over food shouldn’t be such a turn-on, but I’m quickly starting to realize that anything regarding this woman might be a turn-on.
I watch her like the predator I’ve turned into whenever I’m around her, checking out the perimeter, making sure that it’s safe to approach, that my chances of winning are at optimal levels.
After clearing my throat, I hope it’s safe to talk. “I vote for kidnapping the chef. But only if you agree to share.”
With her finger on her chin, she pretends to think about this. Damn, even that is sexy. I’m starting to see all of these sides of her when she’s not around the boys. Why do I like that so much?
She’s an amazing mom, no doubt about that, but it’s also been a few very stressful years for her. The boys are great kids, but as most other kids, they can be a handful. Seeing her this carefree and joyful makes my chest tight.
“I think we could arrange that.”
I lean closer and she tilts her head back to continue looking at me. She isn’t short by any means, but neither am I, and I love this angle.
Lifting my hand, I reach out to her hand that’s cradled by her side. Without looking, I trail my fingers along her arm and the inside of her wrist, before grabbing the spoon out of her hand. “I believe it’s my turn now to feed you.”
And so much more if you’ll let me. The words volley around in my mind but I don’t say them out loud. Hopefully, I can show her though.
Her lips part on a gasp as her chest heaves, and a burst of satisfaction rushes through me at her reaction.
